This June holidays come along to TMAG and discover your museum through a series
of informal drop-in activities. Chat with
museum staff and discover some weird and
wonderful things from the collection.
No need to book, just drop in any time between
10.30am–12.30pm or 1.30–3.30pm. World Environment
Day activities on Thursday 5 June are different, and have
strictly limited numbers for the afternoon session. For
this session participants will need to attend for the entire
duration, from 1.30–3.30pm.
Tuesday 3 June
Invertebrates in the marine world

Zoology gallery
Come and meet zoology curators, Liz Turner and Kirrily Moore, and discover fascinating facts about shells, sea stars and other wonders of the marine world. Examine the microscopic features of these amazing creatures that have developed in order to live in a marine environment.

Portraits and Identity

Create an identity – fantasy, fact or fiction. Have fun creating a portrait then bring the characters to life with storytelling and music. |

World Environment Day
Join Annie Beecroft for this special program for World Environment Day.
Numbers are strictly limited for the afternoon session.
Wicked Ways with Wastepaper
10.30am–12.30pm

All materials supplied
Ages: 5 and over (Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult)
Reuse wastepaper (office paper, old calendars, brochures, cards) and transform it into practical and decorative gifts. Make and decorate your own special notebook, photograph frame or gift bag. Fashion a fish or fold a frog or butterfly!
Something Old, Something New
1.30–3.30pm
Commissariat Store
Ages: 8 and over
Play with paper—measure, fold, cut and stamp to make your own unique fold out photo album/ decorative card or treasure keepsake. All materials supplied.
For this session participants will need to attend for the entire duration, from 1.30–3.30pm. |

Art galleries
Draw you own portrait, or somebody else’s, on a postcard and post it! Don’t forget to bring 50 cents for the stamp.
Wednesday 11 June
Fur, Feathers, Scales and Spikes!

Zoology gallery
Feel the different museum animals and learn why animals have different body coverings. Find out how penguin feathers are adapted for an aquatic life and how owls fly silently.
Life in the Freezer: Antarctic Adventures!
1.30–3.30pm
Antarctic gallery
Come on up to Islands to Ice and discover what it’s like to live in the freezer! Find out how different animals survive and get close to some cute and cuddly, weird and wonderful creatures! Measure yourself up against some of the biggest and smallest marine animals! |
Thursday 12 June
Lovely Leaves and Amazing Art
10.30am–12.30pm
Commissariat Store
Use leaves to create some amazing art! Turn leaf rubbings into animals and crazy creatures and learn how to print with leaves – you will be amazed at the results. Please bring a smock or old shirt to wear as it can get messy! You can also bring special items to print on (eg t-shirt or piece of fabric).
Taxidermy and Turtles
11am–3pm

Come and watch our talented taxidermist at work, discover the techniques used in preparing reptiles for display.
During the holidays test your skills by following the Colour Trail around the museum. Trail sheets are available from the front desk or Discovery Space.
