Masterplan Summary
The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery has a Master Plan to act as a blueprint for the project.
The Masterplan is a conceptual document that sets out requirements for architectural design, heritage and archaeology, exhibitions, operations, environment and sustainability.
The Masterplan:
- More than double the existing exhibition space with the ability to attract major traveling exhibitions
- Increase public access to some of the nation's most significant heritage buildings
- Include opportunities for contemporary architecture that is also sympathetic to the heritage and character of the site and the waterfront setting
- Maximise environmentally sustainable design opportunities, and
- Create the perfect place to showcase TMAG's unique collection, place and buildings to provide a mirror of ourselves and a window to the world.
The Masterplan was completed by Sydney-based practice Johnson Pilton Walker (JPW), in partnership with Tasmanian architects, Terroir, in May 2007.
JPW has extensive experience in cultural projects around the world.
