Professional enrichment

TMAG provides workshops and professional development opportunities for teachers and community services professionals.

Whether you're a teacher planning a class visit to TMAG or an organization interested in a workshop for staff, we can help you out.

Exhibition previews for teachers

TMAG runs guided tours of new and temporary exhibitions just for teachers. These events are an opportunity to see our latest attraction first, discuss arrangements for class excursions and hear about education programs and resources. Guest presenters, such as curators and artists, are frequently part of exhibition previews for teachers. Bookings are essential and a small cost may apply where materials are provided.

Enrichment workshops

AccessArt run workshops in creative thinking and visual art practice for teachers and community service professionals; including pre-service and in-service child carers, aged care workers and disability support workers. The aim of these programs is to raise confidence in modelling and facilitating creativity, and deepen awareness about the broad range of benefits that arise from quality art experiences. This is achieved through sharing the insights, skills, techniques, materials, tools and language our Art Educator uses every day with people at TMAG. Professional artists are also involved in these workshops from time to time.

Workshops are available on request for groups able to come to the museum and can be tailored to the specific needs of the participants. A small fee may apply. Organisations eligible for outreach may express interest in having a future enrichment workshop delivered in their area.

MOVE: video art workshop for teachers

In 2010 AccessArt facilitated the delivery of a ground-breaking art education resource to every secondary school in Tasmania. ‘MOVE: video art in schools’ is a box set containing 21 original video art works by leading Australian artists, developed by Kaldor Public Art Projects. This workshop is specifically designed to support teachers in using MOVE in their classroom, and covers topics such as: what video art is, how video relates to other art forms, tools and language for interpreting the moving image, hands-on activities and exploration of Tasmanian curricular links.

Workshops are available on request for groups able to come to the museum. Organisations eligible for outreach may express interest in having a future enrichment workshop delivered in their area.
