ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Exhibition acknowledgements commonly focus on thanks to lenders of works of art and other objects. While this is not necessary in the context of an in-house project, some formal recognition of Sea's numerous contributors is in order.
Firstly, I must acknowledge the support of the Director, Trustees and staff of the Museum. As an interdisciplinary exhibition, Sea revealed numerous disjunctions of purpose, language and professional convention between the various curatorial departments involved, but I am pleased to note that these difficulties were largely overcome through collegiate courtesy and goodwill.
I wish to record my particular appreciation of the work of curator Romy Wall. A postgraduate intern on secondment from the Tasmanian School of Art at Hobart, Romy had significant responsibility for exhibition research, selection and interpretation, and rapidly developed a strong understanding of and commitment to the project, the collection and the Museum. I am grateful to have had on board someone who so readily shared the vision and the task.
Curatorial and catalogue credits are listed on the web site home page, but I wish especially to thank the following: - the staff of the Art Department (Assistant Curator Sue Backhouse, Exhibitions Officer Lance Cosgrove and Artisan/Frame Conservator Ray Prince), as much for their belief in the project as for their hard work in its realisation - Curator of Information Services Alison Melrose and her staff, for constructing a web site which is smooth and coherent in both appearance and operation - Acting Chief Conservator Jan Stanczyk, for ensuring the best possible standards of presentation - Acting Head of Display Brent Dawes, for allowing me to focus by taking on management of Sea's concurrent "sister exhibition" Sydney Harbour: David Moore - 50 years of photography.
Finally, my personal thanks go to David Moore, Gavin Wilson and Anne Morrison for patiently suffering my neglect due to maritime preoccupations, to Stephen Ashley for catalogue suggestions early on, to Lissant Bolton for advice on Melanesian tobacco pipes, and to my partner Margot for bearing with yet another exhibition obsession.
