From beach to bottle?
follow the story of the giant squid as it enters the museum world!

This short video shows the journey of a rare giant squid after it washed up on the west coast of Tasmania in July 2007. Few specimens of giant squid (Architeuthis sp.) exist in museum collections around the world, so the process of collecting, dissecting, sampling, freezing, and preserving this one is of special interest. Tissue samples from this specimen have already been sent to scientists overseas for further study to help us find out more about his remarkable animal that inhabits the depths of the Southern Ocean.
