Description

For NAIDOC Week, a public premiere screening of a new Tasmanian documentary on the pakana/palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) cultural practice of shell stringing -  with an introduction by TMAG’s Senior Curator of Indigenous Cultures, Zoe Rimmer.

Filmed across lutruwita/Tasmania, this striking documentary goes behind the recent TMAG exhibition of the same name, to explore the cultural revitalisation of Tasmanian Aboriginal shell stringing. Shot by local filmmakers Roar Film, this is a testament to the resilience, strength, skill and beauty of pakana/palawa shell stringers and the cultural practice that sustains them.

Produced by Roar Film, TMAG and Screen Tasmania

Duration: 35 minutes
