Primavera 2010 touring exhibition opens

Primavera is the Museum of Contemporary Art’s (MCA) annual exhibition showcasing the work of Australian artists aged 35 and under, including young Tasmanian artist James Newitt.

Primavera is a showcase for emerging talent amongst young Australian artists, many of whom will go on to international careers.

The curator of Primavera 2010, Katie Dyer, is also gallery manager and curator at the National Art School, which is known for its innovative artist-initiated exhibitions and projects.

Primavera 2010 features works that extend the boundaries of artistic practice across painting, sculpture and video.The exhibition shows the highly innovative practice of young Australian artists.

The work of seven artists is presented in Primavera 2010: Akira Akira (SA), Julie Fragar (QLD), Agatha Gothe-Snape (NSW), Alasdair McLuckie (VIC), James Newitt (TAS), Jackson Slattery (VIC), and Emma White (NSW).

Primavera 2010: Exhibition by young Australian Artists explores the relationship between humans and the natural environment, systems of knowledge and the reinterpretation of historical precedents.

The exhibition is on show at TMAG until 20 November 2011.

The Primavera exhibition series was founded through the generous benefaction of Dr Edward Jackson AM and Ms Cynthia Jackson AM and their family, in memory of their late daughter and sister Belinda.

Curator, Katie Dyer, has been assisted in this project by the National Art School, Sydney.
