Christmas Opening Hours

The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) will be closing early on Christmas Eve and will be closed to the public on Christmas Day.

However, the museum will be open all other days during the holiday period with plenty on offer for all ages.

There are three new temporary exhibitions for visitors to enjoy over the Christmas break, as well as our popular permanent galleries.

The Tatts in Tasmania social history exhibition tells the story of George Adams and Tattersall’s, while Drawn with Intent showcases some fantastic Australian drawings from the State Collection.

Our collaborative exhibition with Contemporary Art Tasmania, Acts of Exposure, features innovative work by three exciting contemporary artists.

There is certainly something for everyone at TMAG, and we look forward to welcoming all visitors through the historic Watergate this holiday period.

TMAG will close at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, 24 December and will be closed for Christmas Day on Wednesday, 25 December.

The museum will reopen at 10:00 am on Thursday 26 December and return to normal opening hours of 10:00 am until 5:00 pm daily for the duration of the holiday season.
