Dark Mofo at TMAG

Dark_Mofo_web_story_picThe Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) is proud to be partnering with Dark Mofo 2014 to present an array of exciting events during this year's festival.

Everything gets underway on Friday 13 June with A Night at the Museum, which will see TMAG open late from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

After viewing the spectacular Articulated Intersect light installation on the waterfront, visitors can come and explore the museum’s collection after dark and enjoy some great free entertainment.

There will also be plenty of food and drink available to purchase, including whisky bars, mulled cider and gourmet treats, as well as a bar selling Moorilla wine and Moo Brew.

Surrealist films will be screened in the Central Gallery, and at 6:00 pm curator Juliana Engberg will give a special talk about the Pat Brassington: À Rebours exhibition, currently on show at TMAG.

Following on from A Night at the Museum, at 9:00 pm on Friday 13 June Narryna Heritage Museum will host the opening of artist Michael Goldberg’s installation An Inn for Phantoms.

Narryna will be open until midnight on Friday, and also many other nights during Dark Mofo for visitors to enjoy this intriguing work.

Dark Mofo activities continue at TMAG on Saturday 14 June, with an in-conversation session with Juliana Engberg and Pat Brassington at 11:00 am in the Central Gallery.

And continuing the darkness theme, at 12:00 pm in the Earth and Life Gallery, the museum’s senior zoology curator Dr Cathy Byrne will present a talk titled Moths: Perfect Creatures of the Night.

On Friday 20 June, TMAG will play host to a special Dark Mofo edition of ABC Radio National’s Books and Arts Daily program, broadcast live from the Central Gallery between 10:00 am and 11:00 am.

All are welcome to come along and listen to the live interviews and special musical performances that will be part of the show.

Also from 20 June, the museum will be screening footage of leading Chinese contemporary artist Yin Xiuzhen's work Washing River 2014, which will be based on the Hobart waterfront during the festival.

The footage will be on show in the Bond Store Basement, presented by Detached and Dark Mofo.
