Friday Nights at TMAG

Friday NightsStart your weekend at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) and join us this February and March for a Friday evening of family fun at the museum.

Presented by TMAG in partnership with the City of Hobart, Friday Nights at TMAG will see the museum open late until 8:00 pm on four consecutive Friday nights, starting on 20 February 2015.

Visitors will be able to wander the galleries, take advantage of artist talks and pop-up performances and enjoy a variety of free entertainment.

Food and drink will also be available to purchase in the museum courtyard, and children’s films will be screening in the Central Gallery.

The films scheduled include the classic Ben Stiller museum movie Night at the Museum and its sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, as well as family-friendly animations Happy Feet and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

The first event on Friday 20 February will feature an artist talk by renowned Tasmanian artist George Davis, who will be on hand to discuss his exhibition George Davis: Master Draughtsman and also sign copies of his book in the Museum Shop.

Hobart performer Colin Dean, fresh from his stint on the Melbourne stage in musical Once, will return to lead some free Settlement Secrets tours on Friday 6 March.

Another highlight will take place at the final event on Friday 13 March, when local artist Sonia Singh and her partner, TMAG Education Officer John Retallick, will be on hand to discuss and demonstrate their Tree Change Doll project, which recently went viral.

There will be plenty more entertainment on offer every week, including bands and wandering performers, so check the Events page on our website for what’s on each night.

Friday Nights at TMAG will take place on Friday 20 and 27 February and Friday 6 and 13 March 2015.

This event has been supported by the City of Hobart’s cultural initiative, Creative Hobart.
