New Senior Curator of Art

Mary Knights

Today the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) is pleased to welcome Dr Mary Knights as the museum’s new Senior Curator of Art.

Mary comes to TMAG from Adelaide, where she was the Director of the South Australian School of Art Gallery at the University of South Australia for almost ten years.

She studied at the Tasmanian School of Art in Hobart, and has worked in the Australian art sector for twenty years, holding curatorial, arts management and academic positions in Tasmania, West Australia and South Australia.

Mary established her career in Tasmania, working in state and local government positions, and she is extremely pleased to be back in the state to take up the position of Senior Curator of Art at TMAG.

She says she is very keen to develop new and strengthen existing collaborations and partnerships with artists, curators, writers and arts organisations in Tasmania.

“The opportunity to work with both TMAG’s extensive art collections and the vibrant contemporary art sector in Tasmania is very exciting,” Mary says.

“TMAG plays a key role in the cultural life of the state and is committed to actively engaging audiences.

“I believe that I can make a contribution and have no doubt that I will find the role inspiring and rewarding.”
