Season’s Greetings from TMAG

Watergate

Staff at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) would like to wish all visitors a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and encourage them to take advantage of the museum’s new seasonal opening hours which start next week.

TMAG will be closed to the public on Christmas Day, but will be open daily from Boxing Day, Monday 26 December.

As announced in May this year, the new seasonal opening hours will see TMAG open daily from 26 December until 31 March, and also open on all Monday public holidays year-round.

This will ensure visitors have access to the museum during peak tourist and cruise ship season and locals can visit during the summer school holidays and on public holidays.

The move to seasonal opening hours is aligned with TMAG’s Strategic Plan and the museum’s goal to become a must-see destination for tourists and a cultural hub for all Tasmanians.

Seasonal opening hours will also ensure the museum is on the right path to sustainability and is able to continue high-quality programming and deliver on the broader objectives established in the Strategic Plan.

TMAG has a range of exhibitions, programs and events planned for the summer season, including two new temporary exhibitions, kanalaritja: An Unbroken String and One Hell of an Inferno: The 1967 Tasmanian Bushfires.

The ever-popular School Holiday Program will also be back from 16-20 January 2017, and TMAG is also planning a special Bushfire Community Day in conjunction with the One Hell of an Inferno exhibition on 5 February 2017.

TMAG will be closed on Christmas Day, Sunday 25 December 2016, but open daily 10:00 am – 4:00 pm from Monday 26 December 2016 until 31 March 2017. For more details of what’s on over summer, visit our Facebook and Twitter pages.
