Launceston-born artist Stephanie Dean has devoted her life to painting Tasmania’s unique native flora.

As a child, she immersed herself in the bush from her family’s holiday cottage on the West Tamar, an experience that led to a lifetime love of bushwalking. Together with her husband John, she would visit many remote parts of Tasmania, collecting, sketching and photographing native plants to paint on their return home to Evandale.

Her careful attention to detail has provided scientifically accurate and exquisitely beautiful illustrations that offer jewel-like meditations on plants and place.

This exhibition showcases some of the large body of her work recently donated to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
