TMAG Embraces Death, Pleasure and Humanity in 2025 Beaker Street Festival
The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) is proud to once again be a major partner and to play a central role in the Beaker Street Festival. Returning from the 12–19 August with a bold and thought-provoking program this year dives into the universal themes of death, pleasure and humanity.
TMAG will come alive after hours, hosting a vibrant mix of science, culture and creativity.
TMAG After Dark promises an unforgettable evening of music, microscopes and mingling, inviting curious minds to explore the museum’s collections in a whole new light.
Families are invited to discover the wonder of science at Discovery Sunday, featuring hands-on experiments, live demos, and Antarctic themed adventures for all ages.
TMAG will again host CoLab — a showcase of student-created works that bridge science and art, as well as the highly anticipated annual Science Photography Prize, highlighting the beauty and complexity of the natural world through the lens.
“Beaker Street Festival brings a dynamic energy to TMAG,” said TMAG Director Mary Mulcahy. “We’re thrilled to again open our doors to late-night explorers, families, and science lovers alike, and to be part of a festival that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and connection.”
This year’s Festival invites all Tasmanians to consider what it means to live fully, die wisely, and connect deeply using science as the lens to examine the human experience. TMAG is just one of over 70 Beaker Street Festival events venues across the state proving that science belongs not just in laboratories, but in museums, pubs, paddocks and in the heart of our community.
