The display brings together items from Villeroy & Boch’s Spirit of the USA and Spirit of Europe collections.
In 1988, European design students created tea and coffee set interpretations of America, with vivid themes emerging, such as fast food, space exploration, and the Statue of Liberty.
Two years later, American graduate designers from Parsons spent time at Villeroy & Boch’s factory in West Germany and produced a series of Spirit of Europe sets interpreting and representing aspects of European life and culture.
Only fifty copies of each set were produced.
