Family Discovery Day for Beaker Street Festival

Join us for a FREE, fun-filled, family-friendly celebration of science and creativity as part of the Beaker Street Festival. Get crafty, play video games, learn more about the cosmos, and explore the Beaker Street CoLab and Science Photography Prize exhibitions.  You can also discover TMAG's newest exhibitions, including The World of Seashells and Becoming Modern, where budding artists can create their own "mini-modern" artwork on our interactive felt wall.

Who lives in a Shell?

SHELL-ebrate TMAG’s new exhibition The World of Seashells, Join the TMAG Learning Team for some hands-on papercraft to create a mollusc and its shell. This family-friendly activity offers insights into how seashells are made and the life cycle of the molluscs that create them.

Prof Lisa Harvey-Smith’s Whistle-Stop Tour of the Universe

Join astrophysicist and author Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith on a thrilling ride through our cosmos. Meet objects from the tiny to the colossal and learn about the strangest and most beautiful objects our night sky has to offer.

After the show, Lisa will hold a book signing (books will be available for purchase) in the TMAG Shop.

Video Games in the Basement

Join game developers from Giant Margarita and researchers from the UTAS International Media Psychology Lab. Grab a controller and join a Couch Co-Op Game with new friends, or chat to some of Tasmania's premier gaming nerds.

Mini Modern

Get creative with Mini Modern, an interactive felt wall inspired by the exhibition Becoming Modern: Mid-century Australian Art. Arrange colourful shapes to create your own unique artwork and explore colour, shape and composition through hands-on play.
