Exhibition proposals

TMAG aims to host a vibrant program of exhibitions, public programs and events throughout the year. We are always interested in working with the community to develop initiatives for Tasmanians and visitors to our state.

This page provides some information about submitting a proposal for an exhibition, public program or event, including a performance, for consideration.

If you are considering submitting a proposal, please bear in mind:

  • Large to even medium scale projects are generally not realised quickly. Major exhibitions, for instance, require years of planning. TMAG’s exhibition schedule is also set several years in advance.
  • Public programs and events, as well as smaller displays/exhibitions, are often able to eventuate more quickly.
    • TMAG’s Bond Store Basement is a space commonly utilised by community and similar organisations as a venue. This space is often available. In considering this space, please bear in mind the environmental conditions which reflect the building’s age (temperature and humidity are not stable).
  • Income generated through non-government sources is essential to TMAG’s financial stability and our ability to deliver exhibitions, public programs and events. TMAG’s audience engagement activities are supported, solely, by grants and sponsorship.

How do I submit my proposal?

You may email your proposal to: exhibitions@tmag.tas.gov.au

What does my proposal need to include?

  • A description of the idea
  • A sense of when you envisage it happening
  • The nature of the space you think it requires (physical/ virtual)
  • How you see the proposal connecting to TMAG’s identity and purpose
  • What expertise you contribute to the project
  • What funding does the project already have or aim to have?
  • Are any other streams of income proposed, such as ticket sales?
  • Does the project have any existing or proposed partners? Who are they?

What happens after I submit my proposal?

We check and review our inbox once every two months. This aligns with a meeting of a committee who review all the proposals with respect to our current and upcoming strategic objectives. Proposals which are in line with our aims are forwarded to our Director for final review and approval.

When does the committee meet?

Generally, every two months in the second week of the month. The first meeting is in February of each year.

What happens if my proposal is accepted?

If your proposal is approved by the Director, one of our team will be in touch. Please bear in mind approved proposals may still require adaptation in order to be feasible.

And if my proposal is not accepted?

One of our team will be in touch via email. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we cannot guarantee detailed feedback on your proposal.

My proposal is accepted, what now?

How exciting! TMAG will assign a Project Manager and they will work with you to develop your concept, as well as look at, for example, funding and scheduling options. Please note many factors influence whether or not a project goes ahead. TMAG reserves the right to cancel or delay approved proposals.
